PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Recently, Grupel supplied a 726kVA power generator to support Master Med Cannabis medical cannabis cultivation plant in Coimbra, Portugal.

The facility uses state-of-the-art, high-tech equipment, including greenhouse structures, LED lighting, irrigation and dry room facilities for optimum temperature and humidity control.

The infrastructure is powered by renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind energy, to meet its electricity production needs. However, these sources are not always available, so it is common and advisable to use standby generator sets as a back-up system.

More details

The Grupel generator that supports this cultivation plant has 726kVA of power and operates in the event of a failure in the main system. It is a Grupel+Grupel unit, with an engine, alternator and controller from our own brand. It also includes a preheating resistor kit with pump, to ensure that the engine is always at a controlled temperature and ready to start at any time.

Master Med Cannabis existes since 2019, when the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes became allowed in Portugal. This sector is expected to develop further, as Portugal is on the radar of global investment in this industry.

As in any sector dependent on cultivation, any energy failure can jeopardize irrigation processes, maintenance of fields and optimal conditions for plantations and, consequently, their survival.

The use of generator sets as back-up energy sources is therefore essential to guarantee the normal running of activities and avoid losses.
