PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A special project produced by Grupel currently supports a desalination plant, in Morocco. It was designed to operate in case of emergency, that is, in the event of a failure of the main power source.

Comprising two 550kVA diesel generators, each with an IVECO engine (CR13 TE7W) and a LEROY SOMER alternator (LSA 49.3S4 690V), the project also has some special features:

  • the generators are suitable for parallel operation
  • the alternators have space heaters in order to reduce the humidity and prevent their own degradation
  • to adapt to local conditions and standards, the generators include anti-seismic syn-blocks
  • the fuel tanks are robust (double walled), with large autonomy (1000L) and with external flanges for connection of the fuel filling and return system.

Desalination plants are large structures that rely on heavy machinery and complex automated systems, and therefore depend on electrical power to operate properly and safely.

A failure in the power supply of these plants can mean serious damage to its equipment and systems and compromise the saltwater treatment and transformation processes that characterize their function.

The use of electric generators as back-up systems is vital to guarantee a quick and safe resumption of plant operations in the event of a power failure, and ultimately ensure a more stable and efficient operation.
