Grupel generators for residential use

Products

Even in places where the mains power is well structured and accessible, there are factors such as bad weather, maintenance and construction works that can lead to power supply failures and cause several activities and processes to cease, even if temporarily.

While it is true that these power outages have serious consequences for various sectors of activity, such as agriculture, retail, health, telecommunications, it is also true in the domestic context, both in homes and residential buildings.

The absence of electricity in your home can mean compromising your safety and comfort, because tasks as simple as cooking, showering, opening and closing the garage, or watching television are highly dependent on power. Acquiring a generator for your residence can be the ideal solution.

For residential or domestic use, Grupel presents two solutions:

SMART range emergency generators

Suitable for emergency applications, Grupel’s SMART range is composed of diesel generators, from 9 to 60kVA, which come into operation automatically whenever there is a power failure. Therefore, they are ideal to ensure an efficient supply to the appliances in your home or building when the regular mains power is not able to guarantee the necessary energy.

Portable generators

For more specific applications that do not require high powers or long periods of use, such as the usage of tools and utensils, during an emergency, or in spaces without access to the mains power, such as your garden, our range of portable generators is the best option. These generators also have the advantages of being easily transportable and simple to handle.

In the residential/domestic context, what you want is to preserve the energy in case of a mains failure, not an alternative source for continuous supply. Therefore, standby generators are able to fulfill the task effectively. But for this to happen automatically and without human intervention – which saves time and prevents greater damage and losses – there are two components that must be taken into consideration: the generator controller and its automatic transfer switch.

What is the role of the controller?

The genset controller is often considered its “brain”, since without it the generator cannot operate. It is through this component that the generator’s mode of operation and what it should do are defined.

It is also the controller that verifies the presence of the power in the mains and “orders” the start of the group in case of a failure. When operating with an automatic transfer switch, it orders the genset to take the load.

What is the purpose of automatic transfer switch?

The automatic transfer switch (ATS) is responsible for the automatic commutation of the energy source that feeds the load, transferring it between the mains and the generator.

When the mains fails, the generator starts. Once it is stabilized and ready to supply power to the installation, the automatic transfer switch makes the switch of the power source, connecting the generator to the load. When power is resumed in the mains, this equipment takes charge of a new commutation, connecting the load to it.

Portable generators also start automatically?

Although not all models allow automatic start-up, there are some which do – always by connection to a ATS. In the case of Grupel’s portable range, the GR6500 model can include a ATS and therefore offers this starting mode.

There are several solutions adapted to the needs of your home. The most suitable generator will always depend on the conditions of use and the desired power, taking into account the number of appliances operating simultaneously, and the location of the equipment.
