PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Grupel supplied and installed a diesel generator to operate in emergency mode in a thermoelectric power plant in Venezuela. This generator, with a power of 906kVA (STP), includes a MAN engine (reference D 2842 LE 211) and Leroy Somer alternator (model LSA 49.1 M75), in a 40″ container.
This generator set is intended to supply the essential load that is needed to protect sensitive equipment in the plant in case of failure in the grid supply. It was built under high quality standards, subjected to a certification process, and all equipment was tested, in compliance with international quality and safety standards, according to the client’s specifications. All the electrical equipment installed is UL certified, as well as the fuel system introduced.
The container is divided into 3 compartments: one for the generator, one for the fuel tanks, and one for the fire extinguishing system. The fire-fighting system is totally autonomous, and in case of fire in any of the other compartments, it is triggered immediately. In addition, the generator stops and the air intakes close hermetically to ensure that there will be no leakage of CO2 outside the container.
The fuel source for the generator is made up of 2 separate double-layer tanks with a capacity of 1500 Liters each. Due to the fact that the geographical location where the equipment is installed is subject to high seismic activity, a special seismic effect absorption system was also installed at the base of the container.
In addition, it is also noteworthy that the operation of the generator works in automatic mode. Due to the importance of the equipment, this generator set automatically starts and powers the essential equipment in less than 10 seconds.
