PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Grupel has supplied a high-power genset to support the combined cycle power plant Marlim Azul, in Macae (Rio de Janeiro), Brazil. With a total capacity of 565 MW, the facility will feature a 301 MW gas turbine, a steam turbine, a boiler, cooling towers, a water treatment plant and a gas station. The power plant will operate in local oil fields.
Our Team has been part of the project since the design, engineering and production phases, and will also follow the installation, testing and start-up stages.
The generator developed by Grupel will ensure energy supply and may operate in parallel with the power grid. The equipment, installed in a 40” container, has 1667kVA of power and has a Mitsubishi engine and Leroy Somer alternator, two brands of reference in which Grupel has total confidence.

Moreover, being a special project, this genset designed to support the power plant has a wide range of extras that allow it to ensure high-performance levels, efficiency, and a total adaptation to the conditions of the installation site and the requirements of the application.
Within these specific characteristics, we can highlight:
- The division of the container into 3 distinct rooms: control; group; and tanks;
- A fire-fighting system to guarantee the safety of the equipment;
- Fire resistance with RF240 polyurethane;
- Fuel storage system with two large autonomy tanks (1500L each) and leak detection;
- Automatic control system for synchronism with the electrical grid;
- Communications system according to the international IEC61850 standard;
- Noise level 85 dB(A) @ 1 m, ensuring the required degree of soundproofing.
Thanks to our Engineering and Product Development department, Grupel already has extensive experience in the design and production of high-power generators for use in various contexts, such as power plants.
